Super Falcons: Tinubu Fulfils $100,000 Promise As Players Begin Receiving Payment

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, following their historic victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they secured a record-extending 10th continental title.

The players have begun receiving about ₦140 million each, representing the naira equivalent of the reward promised after they came from 2-0 down to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in the July 2025 final.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked President Tinubu, describing the payment as recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

The reward reflects the President’s commitment to supporting sporting excellence and motivating Nigerian athletes. Since assuming office, he has provided similar support to other national teams, including fulfilling a $100,000 reward promise to D’Tigress after their victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where Nigeria won a fifth consecutive continental title.

Meanwhile, National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade have continued to pursue reforms focused on athlete welfare, international exposure and major sporting events.

Under their leadership, the Commission has overseen Nigeria’s hosting of about 30 international competitions, strengthening the country’s profile as a destination for global sports.

The Commission commended President Tinubu for his consistent support and tangible recognition of Nigerian athletes, saying his commitment has strengthened confidence among athletes and administrators while promoting a culture of reward, accountability and national pride.
