Osimhen Injured, Doubtful For AFCON Qualifiers

Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen is facing a race against time to recover in time for the Super Eagles’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in September.

Osimhen continued his blistering start to the season with Galatasaray, scoring the opening goal in the 16th minute to take his tally to six goals in four games.

However, the striker was forced off in the 33rd minute with what appeared to be a groin injury, raising concerns over his availability for Nigeria’s upcoming AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles will begin their qualification campaign with a home fixture against Madagascar in Uyo on September 23 before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.

Osimhen’s participation in both matches is now in serious doubt, with Galatasaray expected to provide an update on the severity of the injury and his likely recovery period.

Respected Turkish doctor Dr. Gürkan Kubilay, while commenting on the injury, suggested that Osimhen may have suffered a ligament tear inside the muscle. He noted that injuries of this nature can typically sideline players for three to four months.
