NIJ Alumni Mourn Veteran Journalist Ademola Adetula, Celebrate His Legacy

The Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) has paid tribute to the late Sir Ademola Adetula (KSJI, MFR), a distinguished NIJ alumnus and former President of the Institute’s Students’ Union Government.

NIJAA was represented at Friday’s lying-in-state ceremony at the NUJ Press Centre in Akure, Ondo State, held as part of the funeral rites for the veteran journalist and former Editor of The Republic Newspaper and Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Hope Newspaper.

Representing the Association, Ayodele Emmanuel delivered a citation on behalf of NIJAA President Olumuyiwa Akintunde, highlighting Adetula’s leadership, professional achievements and contributions to the NIJ community.

Adetula served as NIJ Students’ Union President in the 1984/85 set. His career contributed significantly to journalism and Nigeria’s media industry.

NIJAA said its presence underscored its commitment to supporting members of the NIJ family and honouring distinguished alumni. Comrade Moboluwade Diesel Ajijo also represented the Association, while other alumni are expected at subsequent ceremonies.

The Association commended Emmanuel and Organising Secretary Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi for their roles in the funeral arrangements, the first major official engagement of the new national leadership since its inauguration.

NIJAA extended its condolences to the Adetula family, friends, colleagues and the entire NIJ community, joining them in celebrating his life and legacy.
