Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, has won the state governorship election, securing victory in 19 of the 30 local government areas.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes across the 30 local government areas, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, scored 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, recorded 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in Boluwaduro, Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Orolu, Osogbo, Oriade, Odo-Otin, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Ayedire, Egbedore, Ayedaade and Ejigbo local government areas.
Oyebamiji won in the remaining 11 local government areas: Ilesa East, Irepodun, Boripe, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Ola-Oluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
The results put Adeleke ahead of Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes.
Announcing the result, the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, disclosed that the Accord Party polled a total of 511,067 votes, while the APC scored 444,815 votes.
Ogunwole, who is the vice-chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, said, “Adeleke Ademola of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected”.
