The Lagos State Government has directed manufacturers, importers, and distributors to disclose any material changes to consumer products or face sanctions.
The directive was issued by LASCOPA’s General Manager of Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Afolabi Solebo, with the aim to boost consumer protection and curb deceptive trade practices.
Businesses must disclose changes to a product’s brand, packaging, labelling, ingredients, weight, size, or quality that could affect buying decisions.
Solebo said LASCOPA will step up market surveillance and penalise offenders under consumer protection laws.
“The right of every consumer to accurate product information is non-negotiable,” he said, warning against undisclosed alterations.
He also urged standardised labelling of key details like production and expiry dates, batch numbers, and measurements for easy verification.
Solebo stressed that accurate product information is a legal requirement under relevant consumer protection laws, and encouraged the public to report violations to LASCOPA.
