Lagos WAPA Pushes Emotional Wellbeing Across State

The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting mental health awareness and strengthening educational support systems.
Speaking at the event titled, “More Good Days Together: Restoring Peace, Reclaiming Joy”, held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Nurudeen Olowopopo Way, Alausa, Ikeja, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. (Mrs.) Bolaji Cecilia Dada, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, described mental stability as a critical component of overall well-being.
She urged residents to remain hopeful and resilient while maintaining a healthy balance in navigating life’s challenges.
The Commissioner said the initiative was designed to create a safe space for open conversations on mental health, raise awareness, and promote a culture of trust, empathy and mutual support across communities.

She also highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing interventions, including counselling and psychosocial support services through its Domestic Violence Unit, as well as skills acquisition and economic empowerment programmes aimed at promoting financial independence, personal safety and improved emotional well-being.
Participants actively engaged in the interactive sessions by sharing personal experiences, asking questions and discussing practical ways to apply the lessons in their daily lives.
The event concluded with participants expressing a better understanding of mental health issues and a renewed commitment to prioritising emotional well-being within their families, workplaces and communities.
The programme brought together stakeholders, ministry officials, mental health advocates and residents for interactive discussions on emotional well-being and mental health awareness.
