NFF Apologies To Tinubu, Nigerians, Rallies Support For Falcons Ahead World Cup Play-Off
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it is fully mobilising support to keep the Super Falcons’ 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup hopes alive through a play-off against South Africa.
Ahead of Thursday’s WAFCON clash in Rabat, the NFF issued an apology and urged Nigerians to back the team. A win keeps Nigeria’s hopes alive, though two intercontinental play-off matches would still follow.
The statement, signed by NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed regret over the failure to secure direct qualification and appreciation for national support.
It read “Sincere apologies to the Government and people of Nigeria for failing to secure direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“The team carried national hopes and government support, and we regret the outcome.
“We also apologise to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the disappointment. A play-off route remains, and the Super Falcons will fight for qualification through CAF and FIFA play-offs.
“We will regroup, learn, and focus on the remaining opportunity. We are committed to making Nigeria proud again. We thank Nigerians for their support and ask them to continue backing the team.”
