The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, alongside the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, received the triumphant Dazzle Football Club of Lagos at the Commission’s office at Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The team won a gold medal in the U-12 category and a silver medal in the U-14 category at the prestigious Dana Cup in Denmark. In addition, Toheeb Ojerinde of the U-14 team was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Congratulating the players and technical crew, Fatodu commended their outstanding performance on the international stage, noting that their achievements were a source of immense pride for Lagos State and Nigeria.
Welcoming the young champions, Fatodu said their success demonstrated the impact of recognising and rewarding excellence.
“The ecosystem championed by the President is such that when you do well, a grateful state and nation receive you. This is the manifestation of that principle this morning,” he said.
Fatodu noted that the players’ achievements had created a significant impact beyond their immediate community, given Lagos State’s population of over 22 million and Nigeria’s population of more than 200 million.
“Without statistical information, your group is just a drop in the ocean when we talk of over 22 million people in Lagos and 200 million in Nigeria. Imagine when that drop creates a significant ripple. That is what you have done, and that ripple is going to inspire other people,” he added.
Fatodu further reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to nurturing young talent, empowering dreams and creating opportunities for athletes to excel both nationally and internationally.
