Nigeria’s men reinforced their status among the Commonwealth’s sprint elite by winning silver in the men’s 4x100m relay at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The Nigerian quartet clocked 38.12 seconds to finish just 0.05 seconds behind Australia, who claimed gold in 38.07 seconds. Ghana secured bronze in 38.13 seconds, making it one of the closest relay finishes of the Games.
England finished fourth in 38.71 seconds, while Jamaica placed fifth in 39.07 seconds. Canada and South Africa were both disqualified.
Nigeria’s silver-medal-winning team featured Kayinsola Ajayi, Favour Ashe, Udodi Onwuzurike and Adekalu Fakorede, who combined blistering pace with flawless baton exchanges to push Australia all the way to the finish.
The result capped an outstanding sprint campaign for Team Nigeria and highlighted the country’s resurgence in men’s sprinting.
Earlier in the championships, Ajayi ended Nigeria’s 20-year wait for a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 100m by winning bronze, while Onwuzurike claimed silver in the men’s 200m. Their relay success further underlined Nigeria’s growing strength in the sprint events.
The relay silver also added to an exceptional athletics campaign for Team Nigeria. Samuel Ogazi won gold in the men’s 400m, Ezekiel Nathaniel triumphed in the men’s 400m hurdles, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi claimed the men’s shot put title, while Jessica Oji secured silver in the women’s shot put. Ella Onojuvwevwo, Tobi Amusan, Temitope Adeshina and several other Nigerian athletes also reached the podium.
With the latest silver medal, Team Nigeria’s tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games increased to 22 medals, 10 gold, seven silver and five bronze as the country continued its impressive campaign.
