Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi delivered an outstanding performance to win the bronze medal in the men’s 100 metres, clocking a blistering 9.90 seconds in a thrilling Commonwealth Games final at Scotstoun Stadium on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old sprinter had earlier booked his place in the final with an impressive victory in his semifinal heat. He maintained his fine form in the final but had to settle for third place after crossing the line in 9.90 seconds.

Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme stormed to victory, setting a new Commonwealth Games record of 9.83 seconds to claim the gold medal.

Australia’s Lachlan Kennedy finished second in 9.85 seconds to take the silver medal.

Ajayi’s compatriot, Favour Ashe, failed to progress beyond the semifinals after finishing fifth in his race, missing out on a place in the final.
