Spain not only lifted the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy but also swept most of the tournament’s major individual awards following their 1-0 extra-time victory over Argentina in Sunday’s final.
Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in extra time to hand La Roja their second World Cup title, while the newly crowned champions dominated the individual honours.
The only major awards not won by Spain went to France captain Kylian Mbappe, who claimed the Golden Boot as the tournament’s top scorer, and the Netherlands, who received the FIFA Fair Play Award.
Rodri Wins Golden Ball
Spain midfielder Rodri was named the tournament’s best player after playing a pivotal role in his country’s World Cup-winning campaign.
The Manchester City star received the Golden Ball from FIFA president Gianni Infantino on the pitch at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey following the final.
Argentina captain Lionel Messi finished as the Silver Ball winner, while Mbappe claimed the Bronze Ball.
Unai Simon Claims Golden Glove
Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon won the Golden Glove award after an outstanding tournament in which he conceded only one goal in eight matches.
The Athletic Club goalkeeper kept seven clean sheets and was beaten only once, by Belgium’s Charles De Ketelaere in the quarter-finals.
Simon justified coach Luis de la Fuente’s decision to make him Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper with a series of commanding performances throughout the tournament.
Cubarsi Named Best Young Player
Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi was named the tournament’s Best Young Player after an impressive World Cup campaign.
The 19-year-old played every minute of Spain’s title-winning run, helping his side concede just one goal throughout the competition. He also played a key role in limiting Argentina to only two shots, with none on target, in the final.
De la Fuente Named Best Coach
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente was recognised as the tournament’s Best Coach after guiding La Roja to World Cup glory with an impressive possession-based style of play.
His side’s 2-0 victory over France in the semi-finals and triumph over Argentina in the final capped a memorable campaign.
Netherlands Receive Fair Play Award
Although the Netherlands once again fell short of winning their first World Cup title, the Dutch were recognised for their exemplary discipline and sportsmanship by receiving the FIFA Fair Play Award.
