….says “Ogun section will be completed before end of 2026”
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said the 28-kilometre Ogun section of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be completed before the end of 2026, noting that the project has already boosted the proposed Ogun Deep Sea Port and other investments along the coastline.
Abiodun, who made the announcement while commissioning the reconstructed Gao-Ibiade Road in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, said the highway would unlock the area’s economic potential and drive industrialisation, maritime development and large-scale investment.
Abiodun praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the project and said he had received fresh assurances that the Ogun section would be delivered on schedule.
The governor said his administration deliberately secured an alignment that would support the proposed Deep Sea Port, with the highway running three to five kilometres from the coastline. He said the lack of an evacuation corridor had long stalled port development, as the only existing access route, the Sagamu-Benin Expressway, is about 35 kilometres away.
Abiodun also said talks with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) have advanced plans to revive the abandoned Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (OKLNG) project, while oil exploration in the area is being intensified. He said the coastal highway, Deep Sea Port, oil exploration and OKLNG revival would turn Ogun Waterside into one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing economic corridors, creating jobs and boosting revenue.
Reflecting on years of neglect in the area, Abiodun said his administration is committed to reversing the trend through sustained infrastructure investment.
He announced that reconstruction of the J4-Gao Road would begin soon, while the route to Abigi, the local government headquarters, would also be rehabilitated.
He said the Gao-Ibiade Road is part of a broader plan to prepare Ogun Waterside for the expected surge in economic activity from the coastal highway, the Deep Sea Port and other projects, reaffirming his commitment to balanced development across all 20 local government areas in Ogun State.
