Aiyedatiwa Appoints New VC For AAUA

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.

The appointment followed the recommendation of the institution’s Governing Council after Obamuyi emerged as the highest-scoring candidate among the 15 professors interviewed by the university’s Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.

A statement issued on Friday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said the appointment was made in line with the university’s governing law and other relevant regulations.

Obamuyi, a professor of Banking and Finance, will succeed Prof. Olugbenga Ige. He has previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and as the pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

The academic is also a recipient of the 2015 Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa Award and has served on accreditation panels of the National Universities Commission and higher education review teams in Namibia.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor would leverage his vast academic and administrative experience to strengthen the university’s standards in teaching, research and institutional development.

“Professor Obamuyi’s wealth of experience will consolidate the gains already recorded by the university and take the institution to greater heights,” said Aiyedatiwa.

The governor urged the new Vice-Chancellor to promote excellence, innovation and peaceful coexistence within the university community, while assuring the institution of his administration’s continued support for its growth and development.
