Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Climate Group, formally joining the Under2 Coalition, the world’s largest network of states and regions committed to net-zero emissions and climate resilience.
The agreement was signed on Monday in London during London Climate Action Week 2026, highlighting Lagos State’s commitment to sustainable development and climate action.
The Under2 Coalition, convened by Climate Group, brings together more than 180 states and regions representing over half of the global economy, providing a platform for subnational governments to collaborate and accelerate the transition to a net-zero future.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said Lagos’ membership would strengthen its drive toward a resilient, low-carbon future.
“As Africa’s economic and commercial hub, Lagos is determined to show that climate action and economic growth can go hand in hand,” he said.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs. Titilayo Oshodi, said the state is moving from ambition to implementation through its climate agenda and State-Determined Contributions framework.
The Under2 Coalition welcomed Lagos State as a significant addition to its network, describing it as one of Africa’s leading subnational governments.
Lagos State’s membership further strengthens its role as a leading platform for subnational climate action in Africa, creating new opportunities for collaboration and international partnerships.
