The Super Falcons of Nigeria have recorded a full house in camp ahead of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) preparatory double-header against Senegal, with the Lionesses of Teranga arriving in Ikenne-Remo on Tuesday night.
The nine-time African champions will host Senegal in the first leg on Friday, while the Lionesses will play as the designated home team in the return fixture on Monday. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 4 p.m. at the Remo Stars Sports Complex.
With experienced midfielder Halimatu Ayinde ruled out of the two encounters, Head Coach Justine Madugu has drafted Israel-based midfielder Josephine Matthias into the squad.
As of Wednesday evening, only forward Gift Monday was still being awaited in camp.
The Super Falcons’ camp features a blend of experienced stars and promising young talents. Established internationals such as Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade and Christy Ucheibe are joined by emerging players including goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor, defenders Shukurat Oladipo and Rofiat Imuran, midfielders Josephine Matthias and Kafayat Shittu, as well as forwards Joy Omewa, Omorinsola Babajide and Blessing Nkor.
Nigeria, aiming for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title, have been drawn in Group C alongside Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi. Senegal, meanwhile, will compete in Group A with hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, 2026.
This year’s competition will also serve as the African qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.The top four teams will qualify automatically for the global showpiece, while the fifth-placed team will advance to an intercontinental playoff tournament for another chance to secure qualification.
