Arsenal Boost Title Hopes As West Ham Sink Deeper

Arsenal F.C. moved a step closer to the Premier League title with a dramatic late victory over West Ham United F.C. at the London Stadium, while the defeat pushed the Hammers deeper into relegation trouble.

After dominating large spells of the encounter, Arsenal finally found the breakthrough in the 83rd minute through Leandro Trossard. The Belgian winger, who had struck the woodwork twice in quick succession during the first half, saw his effort take a decisive deflection off Tomas Soucek before finding the back of the net.

The visitors had been frustrated for much of the game despite controlling possession, with West Ham showing resilience in defence and threatening occasionally on the counterattack.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya proved crucial moments before the winning goal, producing an outstanding save to deny Mateus Fernandes from close range after the midfielder appeared certain to score.

West Ham thought they had rescued a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time when Callum Wilson found the net, but the goal was eventually ruled out following a lengthy VAR review for a foul on Raya. The decision sparked fury among the home supporters inside the stadium.

The result leaves Arsenal five points clear of Manchester City F.C. at the top of the table, although Pep Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand as the title race heads into its final stretch.

For West Ham, the defeat further deepened their relegation fears. The Hammers remain in the bottom three, one point behind Tottenham Hotspur F.C., having played one game more.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was forced into a tactical reshuffle after Ben White suffered a knee injury, prompting Declan Rice to temporarily move to right-back. Rice later returned to midfield in the second half as Arsenal regained control before Trossard’s decisive intervention secured a potentially title-defining victory for the Gunners, who have also booked their place in the Champions League final.
