Lagos Commissions Takwa Bay PHC, Expands Healthcare Access To Riverine Communities
The Lagos State Government has taken a major step toward achieving universal healthcare access with the commissioning of a renovated and upgraded Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Takwa Bay, Iru-Victoria Island LCDA.
Speaking at the commissioning, the Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no resident is left behind in accessing quality healthcare services.
She noted that the initiative is designed to bring essential health services closer to riverine communities. As part of the commissioning activities, a comprehensive medical outreach was also conducted for residents of Takwa Bay.
According to her, the outreach included screenings for hypertension and diabetes, as well as tests for syphilis, Hepatitis B, HIV, malaria, and urinalysis.
Other services provided included dental checks with extractions, blindness prevention screenings with free corrective glasses, and prostate cancer screening, among others.
Dr. Adeleke identified poor health-seeking behaviour among community members as a major challenge and urged residents to take full advantage of the services available at the upgraded facility.
In her keynote address, the Chairman of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Hon. Aminat Alabi, said the unveiling of the facility underscores the administration’s commitment to the well-being of the community.
She added that the project includes the installation of a 24-hour solar power system and the construction of a four-bedroom en-suite staff quarters, noting that the development aligns with the administration’s goals of improving healthcare service delivery.
