Midnight Fire Razes Shops in Agege, Tejuosho, Destroys Millions Worth of Goods
Millions of naira worth of goods and property were destroyed after fire outbreaks engulfed Tower Aluminum Village along Abeokuta Expressway in Dopemu, Agege, as well as a three-storey commercial building at Tejuosho in Yaba.
The incidents occurred at different times, with the Agege fire breaking out at about 10:46 p.m. on Friday, while the Tejuosho incident happened in the early hours of Saturday at approximately 3:15 a.m.
Confirming the developments, the Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said in a statement posted on the agency’s Facebook page that both incidents were successfully contained.
Adeseye explained that fire crews from the Ikeja and Agege fire stations responded promptly to the emergency in Dopemu, effectively bringing the blaze under control after it affected multiple offices and stores of varying sizes.
She noted that the structures, situated on a land area of approximately 2,592 square metres within a premises spanning about four acres, suffered significant damage to affected sections and their contents.
According to her, the second incident occurred at about 3:15 a.m. on Saturday at a three-storey commercial building located on Oyabiyi Street, opposite the NLC office in Tejuosho, Yaba. The building, which housed shops and stores containing stacked textile materials, was engulfed by fire.
“Firefighters from the Somolu, Ilupeju and Sari Iganmu fire stations were swiftly mobilised to the scene and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to adjoining properties,” she said.
The Controller General reiterated the importance of fire safety precautions and urged members of the public to remain vigilant, especially in commercial areas where flammable materials are stored.
She added that further investigations are ongoing to determine the causes of the fires.
