A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State and Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as JANDOR, has said his administration would prioritise the welfare of residents if elected governor in 2027.
Jandor made the remark on Saturday while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 8th Annual Ramadan Lecture held in Ikeja.
According to him, the primary purpose of governance is to promote the wellbeing of citizens, stressing that his government would take deliberate steps to improve the living conditions of the people if given the mandate.
He maintained that government should focus on creating an enabling environment for development rather than directly engaging in business, adding that his administration would address the hardship faced by residents through strategic interventions in infrastructure, education, healthcare and other critical sectors.
“The lecturer has added to my manifesto with his submissions. We intentionally asked some of our people not to come today, otherwise this place would have been too small. The people have been with us for about 10 years. Those here today are just the executive members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement.
“We have ward chairmen, local government executives, state executive members and apex leaders who meet with us regularly.
“We didn’t start today. In 2023, they thought I would ask them to go home because of what happened after the general elections. We believe that 2023 was a test for us from God. I didn’t ask anyone to go home and we are still meeting at Liberty House.
“We are now at a critical moment and God knows whoever will get there. We have done what God asked us to do. We have made our efforts and we will wait to see what happens next,” he said.
Jandor also noted that no one from the Badagry Division of Lagos State has ever served as governor, expressing optimism that the aspiration of the people in the division could be realised.
Meanwhile, the guest speaker at the event, Fadeelat Shaykh Alhaji Abdulhakeem Muhammadu Awwal (Al-Jejewiyy), who spoke on the theme “Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation: The Islamic Perspective,” emphasised the importance of structured management of Zakat in addressing poverty.
Awwal noted that although many individuals give charity, proper monitoring and organised administration of Zakat are often lacking in many parts of the world compared to practices in some Arab countries.
He suggested that governments could establish Zakat committees made up of technocrats to ensure the effective management and distribution of funds for societal benefit.
According to him, Zakat could support entrepreneurship, help settle debts, fund education through scholarships, build hospitals and assist vulnerable members of society.
