The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by its Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN, on Saturday paid a courtesy visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Members of the PDP delegation included former Niger State Governor, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu; former Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang; former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, among other senior party leaders.
Speaking during the visit, Obasanjo commended the delegation for their efforts and urged them to remain resolute, encouraging the leadership to “soldier on”.
The former president emphasized the need for discipline and adherence to party rules, stressing that anyone who chooses to belong to a political party must strictly abide by its rules and regulations.
Prior to the visit, the Turaki-led faction of the PDP had held a meeting with party stakeholders in Ogun State as part of its ongoing consultations.
It will be recalled that in November, a faction of the PDP, backed by several governors including Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, convened a national convention where new NWC members were elected, with Turaki emerging as chairman.
At the convention, the faction announced the expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and some of his allies, including former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose; Samuel Anyanwu; Bature Ajibade; Mao Ohuabunwa, former lawmaker; Austin Nwachukwu, former Imo State PDP chairman; Amah Nnanna Abraham, former Abia State PDP chairman; Dan Orbih, former National Vice Chairman (South-South); and George Turnah.
However, the Wike-led group rejected the expulsions and subsequently announced the formation of a parallel National Working Committee, Board of Trustees (BoT), and National Executive Committee (NEC).
