The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has congratulated General Christopher Musa (Rtd) on his appointment and assumption of office as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, describing the development as a strong signal of the Federal Government’s renewed determination to tackle the nation’s security challenges.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said General Musa’s emergence represents more than an administrative transition, noting that it embodies a “national resolve to decisively confront threats that have tested Nigeria’s collective resilience.”
Oladejo noted that the new minister carries a “popular mandate” anchored on public confidence, a long record of operational leadership, and experience managing some of the country’s most complex security operations.
“Nigerians know his name, they know his service, and they know what they expect of him,” he said, adding that the responsibilities before the minister are enormous and demand “courage, clarity, and uncompromising dedication.”
The Lagos APC commended General Musa’s expressions of readiness and commitment on assumption of office, saying his tone and posture reflect an understanding of the weight of national expectations. The party urged Nigerians, security agencies, and institutions to support him, stressing that “national security is a collective responsibility.”
The party outlined key expectations of the new minister, including the modernization of the armed forces, stronger intelligence coordination, restoration of public confidence in security institutions, and a more decisive offensive against terrorists and criminal networks.
Oladejo added that General Musa’s appointment further underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to securing the country, noting that the President has consistently demonstrated the political will to confront insecurity.
He urged the minister to bring his extensive experience to bear in complementing the administration’s Renewed Hope Security Architecture through strategic innovation and disciplined execution.
Under Musa’s leadership, the Lagos APC said it expects a cleanup of compromised elements within the security system, disruption of terror financing pipelines, and stronger protections for citizens “who continue to bear the brunt of insecurity.”
