Officers of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) have rescued a woman who attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when LNSC patrol officers on routine surveillance swiftly intervened and prevented the woman from taking her life. She was immediately placed under the protection and care of the Corps.
Initial efforts to reach her relatives in the Makoko area were unsuccessful. However, through persistent efforts, LNSC officials were able to contact members of her family, and she has since been handed over to her husband.
The Corps further confirmed that an association, which had earlier pledged financial assistance to the woman, has invited her for further discussions scheduled for Wednesday.
Speaking on the development, the General Manager of LNSA, Prince (Dr.) Ifalade Oyekan, commended the swift response of the officers and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State. He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report distress situations to the nearest security agency.
