Ondo Contributory Health Commission Unveils Plans To Expand Health Insurance Enrolment
…targets One Million Enrollees By 2027
The Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC) has unveiled plans to expand health insurance enrolment to one million residents by 2027.
Director General of ODCHC, Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin, disclosed this during a sensitization programme for Permanent Secretaries and other accounting officers, in Alagbaka, Akure.
He described the commission’s sixth anniversary in June as a testament to the state’s commitment to accessible healthcare.
Oyeneyin outlined ” The achievements of the commission’s flagship programmes, including the Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Insurance Scheme, which has reached 55,557 pregnant women and children under five; the Basic Health Care Provision Fund ‘Ilera Loro’ Scheme, which has enrolled 82,662 vulnerable residents, including widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities, orphans, and sickle cell patients; and the Orange Health Insurance Scheme (ORANGHIS), which currently covers 103,738 public servants and dependants, with over 1,368 surgeries performed in less than three years”.
He commended the Head of Service, expanded labour unions, and other stakeholders for their support, and praised the state Governor Dr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for prioritising efficient healthcare and welfare under his “OUR EASE” 7 points developmental agenda.
Announcing new initiatives, he revealed that the commission launched a 24/7 contact centre in July 2025, upgraded hospital infrastructure under the hospital intervention program, and intensified sensitization campaigns across the state.
In his welcome address, Special Adviser on Health, Prof Simidele Odimayo, applauded the remarkable work of the commission under the leadership of Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin, noting that within just a few years, ODCHC has achieved commendable feats.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Awolowo Ajaka, applauded the state government for initiating a programme that guarantees affordable and quality healthcare, lauding the ODCHC for its efficient implementation and urged all residents to enrol, describing health insurance as the most sustainable pathway to universal coverage.
