LAWMA Moves To Clear Major Waste Blackspot At Iyana Oworo

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced the clearance of a major waste blackspot at Carwash Bus Stop, Iyana Oworo, along the Alapere–Third Mainland Bridge corridor in Kosofe.

LAWMA Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the operation, which began on Thursday, October 15, involved the deployment of excavators and tipper trucks to remove accumulated household and commercial waste from the road median and drainage channel.

He said the authority was working with relevant enforcement agencies to investigate the source of the illegal dumping and intensify monitoring to prevent a recurrence.

Gbadegesin added that LAWMA would collaborate with Kosofe Local Government officials to strengthen surveillance and sensitise residents, traders and transport operators on proper waste disposal.

He urged residents to patronise registered Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and refrain from dumping refuse in drains, road medians and other public spaces.

He also encouraged members of the public to report illegal dumping and emerging waste blackspots through LAWMA’s official reporting channels.
