Edit, MTN Foundation Support 745 Pupils With Learning Materials

The Edo State Government, in partnership with the MTN Nigeria Foundation, has distributed learning materials to 745 pupils of Oba Akenzua II Junior Secondary School, Benin City.

The intervention, facilitated by the Office of the First Lady, provided 1,200 school bags, 12,000 exercise books and 1,200 water bottles to support teaching and learning at the school.

Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, represented by Mrs. Betty Okonoboh, said the initiative underscored the importance of partnerships in improving education and developing human capital.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Washington Osifo, represented by Hon. Vincent Akhere, commended MTN for supporting the state’s education efforts and urged the foundation to extend the initiative to more schools.

Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Executive Chairman, Ambrose Ayewoh, represented by the Board Secretary, Arogundade Ayodele Ayodeji, said adequate learning materials were essential to creating an effective learning environment.

Ayewoh encouraged the pupils to make proper use of the materials and maximise the opportunity provided by the intervention.

MTN Senior Manager of Sales and Distribution, Olaniyi Alabi, said the Learning Support Materials Initiative targets more than 1,000 schools across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in 2026.

The school’s Principal, Sweet Edobor, described the intervention as significant, noting that all 745 pupils received learning materials. The pupils expressed appreciation for the support and urged the organisers to sustain similar initiatives in the school.
