Arsenal Sink Chelsea 2-1 In London Derby

Reigning champions Arsenal came from behind to beat big-spending Chelsea 2-1 in a pulsating London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

Chelsea stunned the home fans by taking a second-minute lead through £117 million summer signing Morgan Rogers, whose volley followed the Gunners’ failure to clear Reece James’ free-kick.

It was the first goal Mikel Arteta’s side had conceded this season. Despite their flying start, Chelsea had failed to keep a clean sheet in their previous 18 Premier League games and were forced to withstand wave after wave of Arsenal pressure.

Emiliano Martinez denied Bukayo Saka, while Jorrel Hato and Wesley Fofana made crucial blocks before the Gunners levelled in the 25th minute.

Former Chelsea forward Kai Havertz beat Martinez at his near post with a well-placed finish to restore parity. In a high-quality encounter, Chelsea, who spent close to £350 million in the summer transfer window, came within inches of retaking the lead.

After captain James forced David Raya into a save from outside the box, Pedro Neto struck the post following a superb solo run.

Arsenal then completed the comeback when captain Martin Odegaard put the hosts ahead in the 50th minute. The Norwegian beat Martinez after a clever dummy from Havertz to score his second goal in three Premier League appearances.

Chelsea substitute Estevao thought he had snatched a late equaliser, but Raya produced a brilliant fingertip save to preserve Arsenal’s lead. The defeat extended Chelsea’s poor record at the Emirates, with the Blues now having lost their fifth consecutive Premier League game at the stadium.
