Taiwo Awoniyi Makes Instant Impact, Fires Conventry City Past Plymouth

 

Taiwo Awoniyi made an instant impact on his first start for Coventry City, scoring and providing an assist as the Sky Blues defeated Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The Nigeria Super Eagles striker needed just three minutes to open his Coventry account before turning provider two minutes later, helping his side establish an early advantage.

Awoniyi has now been directly involved in two goals in his first two appearances for Coventry City, making an impressive start following his arrival at the club.

The 29-year-old came on as a second-half substitute in Coventry’s Premier League opener against Arsenal, which ended in a 3-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium. He was handed his first start against Plymouth and responded with a goal and an assist within the opening five minutes.

Coventry went on to secure a 4-2 victory and book their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup, with Awoniyi’s early contribution setting the tone for an impressive individual performance.

The Nigerian forward will now hope his explosive start earns him a regular place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI as Coventry continue their Premier League campaign.
