Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team coach, Moses Aduku, has assured Nigerians that the Falconets will give their best to win the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The team departed for Poland ahead of the tournament, scheduled to run from September 5 to 27, with Aduku insisting that his players are determined to fight for glory.
“The number one thing I need from Nigeria is to believe in the team. We are going all out to make sure we come back with victory and success,” Aduku told the Super Falcons Show.
Aduku also urged Nigerians to pray for and support the team, saying, “We are compelled to win, so we ask Nigerians to pray for us and believe in us.”
The Falconets secured their place at the tournament after overcoming Rwanda 5–0 on aggregate, Senegal 3–1 and Malawi 3–2 in the qualifying series.
Nigeria will begin their campaign against Spain on September 7 before facing China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.
The team is expected to use the period before their opening match to complete its tactical and technical preparations while acclimatising to European conditions.
The Falconets have finished runners-up at the U-20 Women’s World Cup twice, in 2010 and 2014, and will be aiming to win the title for the first time. Nigeria remains the only African country to have featured in every edition of the competition since its inception in Canada.
