…demands adequate funding, equipment
The Lagos State House of Assembly has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strengthen and adequately empower the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), including better funding, equipment, and training to improve its effectiveness.
The resolution followed a motion by Hon. Moshood Aro (Ikorodu II) on rising vandalism of public infrastructure, especially in Festac Town, and the need to speed up prosecution of suspects.
Aro warned that the destruction of roads, bridges, and other public assets funded by taxpayers was alarming. “Public infrastructure vandalism is becoming worrisome in Lagos… This act has also attracted global attention,” he said, calling for action against both vandals and their patrons.
He stressed that huge public funds were being wasted, while Hon. Stephen Ogundipe (Oshodi/Isolo I) urged tougher government action against offenders.
Other lawmakers backed stronger enforcement, including sanctions for those who buy or sell stolen government property, and called for community involvement in reporting vandalism.
However, the Speaker of the House, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa said insecurity, vandalism, and sanitation required a coordinated response.
Obasa called for stronger support for the LNSC, comparable to the police, and urged effective implementation of laws through proper oversight and budget provisions.
