Argentina Break England Hearts With 2-1 Win, Set Up Spain Final

Defending champions Argentina secured a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after staging a dramatic comeback to defeat England in Wednesday night’s second semi-final.

The two sides battled to a goalless first half at Atlanta Stadium, with neither team able to break the deadlock before the interval.

England took the lead in the 55th minute through Anthony Gordon, who finished off a well-worked move to put the Three Lions ahead in the fiercely contested encounter.

Argentina responded late in the game, drawing level in the 87th minute through Enzo Fernández after an assist from Lionel Messi.

Just when extra time appeared inevitable, Lautaro Martínez scored the winner on the stroke of 90 minutes, with Messi again providing the decisive assist to send the South Americans into their second consecutive World Cup final.

Argentina will face Spain, who defeated France 2-0 in Tuesday’s first semi-final, in Sunday’s final, while England will take on France in the third-place playoff.
