Tinubu Retains Shettima As 2027 Running Mate

President Bola Tinubu has formally retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, ending months of speculation over the composition of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket.
The announcement was made on Friday at the Continental Hotel in Abuja, where the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, alongside top party leaders, met to formally present Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.
The decision also puts to rest widespread speculation that the President could replace the Vice President ahead of the next general election.
The Tinubu-Shettima ticket is expected to be formally ratified by the party as preparations gather momentum for the 2027 polls.
It would be recalled that Tinubu first announced Shettima as his running mate in July 2022 after the withdrawal of placeholder vice-presidential nominee Kabiru Masari.
Unveiling the former Borno State governor, Tinubu described him as a competent, loyal and experienced leader capable of helping deliver effective governance, insisting that merit and capacity—not religion—guided his choice.
