NITDA, Meta Strengthen Partnership To Promote Youth Online Safety, Digital Trust
The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth online safety and digital literacy through collaboration with Meta to build trust in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
Director-General Kashifu Inuwa restated the commitment at Meta’s Youth Safety Summit in Abuja, which brought together government, industry, civil society and education stakeholders to promote safe, age-appropriate online experiences for young Nigerians.
A key highlight was the launch of the Youth Online Safety Campaign and My Digital World (MDW) 2.0, developed by Meta with NITDA and the Federal Ministry of Youth Development.
Represented by Dr Ahmed Tambuwal, Inuwa said the partnership supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the drive for economic growth, cybersecurity and digital trust.
He said digital literacy must go hand in hand with online safety, noting that NITDA’s National Digital Literacy Framework and Digital Literacy for All (DL4ALL) initiative target 70 per cent literacy by 2027 and 95 per cent by 2030.
The NITDA DG added that online safety, digital citizenship, privacy, wellbeing, critical thinking and AI literacy are now core competencies, and described the NITDA-Meta partnership as a model for public-private collaboration.
Inuwa said MDW 2.0 would help institutionalise online safety education across NITDA’s teacher training, Digital Literacy Champions network and awareness campaigns with state governments, traditional rulers, faith-based groups and communities.
He reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to working with Meta and other stakeholders to build a secure, inclusive digital ecosystem.
