The Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA), in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Benin Branch, has sensitised residents of Iguorakhi Community in Ovia South-West Local Government Area on flood preparedness.
EDOSEMA Executive Secretary Jerry Idahosa, NEMA’s Director of Operations, Mr. Judare Kenoma, represented by Mr. Joseph Akpofabe, educated the residents, especially farmers, on the 2026 flood predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the need for early preparedness.
Idahosa said the campaign, part of the 202lo National Preparedness and Response Campaign on Flood Disaster and Related Hazards, was aimed at building resilient communities and reducing the impact of flooding on lives and property.
He urged residents to take flood warnings seriously, adopt preventive measures and report emergencies through 112 or EDOSEMA’s emergency lines: 08070419855, 08140848899 and 09037999871.
Mrs. Chinwewa Okpara of NEMA also advised residents to follow early warning alerts, while the Nigerian Red Cross Society educated them on safety measures before, during and after flooding.
Community representative Mr. Godwin Amadi thanked the agencies for the sensitisation and promised to share the information with other residents.
