The National Sports Commission (NSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has set up a Welfare Committee for the Super Falcons ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The seven-member committee was announced after a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday between NSC Director-General Hon. Bukola Olopade and NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi.
NFF Executive Board member Aisha Falode will chair the committee, with Ruth David as secretary. Other members are Rt. Hon. Margaret Icheen, Babagana Kalli, Emeka Iyama, Aderonke Tinuoye, and Tobechukwu Oluchi.
Olopade said the Federal Government is committed to ensuring the Super Falcons have a smooth campaign, free of welfare or financial concerns.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, are personally committed to seeing the Super Falcons successfully defend their title in Morocco. This ad-hoc committee has therefore been established to support the NFF in ensuring a seamless tournament campaign for the team,” he said.
“Welfare is a non-negotiable aspect of any team’s success. With this committee in place, the players can be assured that both the NSC and the NFF are taking their welfare seriously throughout the WAFCON campaign,” Olopade said.
Sanusi described the move as a landmark for women’s football in Nigeria, saying it is the first time such a committee has been created for the senior women’s national team ahead of a major tournament.
“For us at the NFF, this demonstrates the strong commitment of the National Sports Commission to the growth of women’s football in Nigeria. It is a development that will further accelerate the progress of the women’s game in the country,” he said.
