Newly promoted Coventry City will mark their return to the Premier League with a daunting trip to Arsenal in the opening match of the 2026-27 season.
The curtain-raiser is scheduled for Friday, August 21, and will see the Sky Blues play their first top-flight game in 25 years against the reigning champions at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal secured their first Premier League title since 2004 under manager Mikel Arteta and will begin the new campaign as defending champions. Coventry, meanwhile, will be eager to make a strong statement on their long-awaited return to England’s top division.
Saturday’s fixtures include another newly promoted side, Hull City, hosting Manchester United after earning promotion through the play-offs. Fellow newcomers Ipswich Town will welcome Sunderland, while Everton face Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest take on Leeds United, and Brentford host Tottenham Hotspur.
On Sunday, Brighton & Hove Albion will entertain Aston Villa, while Manchester City begin a new era without Pep Guardiola when they host Bournemouth. Both clubs enter the season under new management, with Bournemouth now led by Marco Rose.
Liverpool will also start life under a new manager, Andoni Iraola, following Arne Slot’s departure. Iraola’s first league game in charge of the Reds will be an away clash against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
Chelsea’s first Premier League outing under Xabi Alonso comes on Monday, August 24, away to Fulham. The west London rivals meet at Craven Cottage, where Fulham are still searching for a permanent replacement for former manager Marco Silva.
The 2026-27 Premier League season will begin just 34 days after the FIFA World Cup final in the United States and will conclude on May 30, 2027. The delayed start and finish dates reflect adjustments made to accommodate the World Cup calendar.
The campaign will feature 33 weekend rounds and five midweek rounds, with the league aiming to avoid clashes with UEFA competitions whenever possible.
A joint-record nine Premier League clubs will compete in Europe next season. Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool will feature in the UEFA Champions League, while Bournemouth, Sunderland and Crystal Palace will play in the Europa League. Brighton qualified for the Conference League.
The festive schedule will also be less congested, with no two rounds played within 60 hours of each other, while a full round of Boxing Day fixtures will return on December 26.
