Nigeria will stage the 2026 National Trials for the Commonwealth Games from June 20 to 22 at the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) Sports Complex in Lagos.
The three-day championship will serve as the official selection event for athletes seeking to qualify for and represent the country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
The trials are expected to attract some of Nigeria’s top track and field athletes, offering a competitive platform to achieve qualifying standards and secure places on Team Nigeria.
Among the athletes expected to compete are Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Fakorede Adekalu, Tyler Johnson and Ogundiran Blessing, alongside several other elite and emerging talents aiming to make their mark on the national and international stage.
The event is expected to provide a crucial assessment of the country’s readiness ahead of the Commonwealth Games, while also showcasing the depth of talent within Nigerian athletics.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent, competitive and merit-based selection process that reflects excellence, fairness and professionalism.
According to the commission, the trials form a key part of preparations for the Glasgow Games and will help assemble a strong contingent capable of competing for honours.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2.
