The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and President of WAFU B, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for approving Nigeria’s bid to host the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) alongside this year’s CAF Awards Ceremony.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is scheduled to hold in October and is expected to attract top football administrators, stakeholders and delegates from across the African continent.
Gusau described the approval as a major boost to Nigeria’s growing influence in African football, noting that it reflects increasing confidence in the country’s ability to successfully host major continental football events.
According to him, the decision further reinforces Nigeria’s standing as one of Africa’s leading football nations and demonstrates the commitment of the current administration to sports development and international engagement.
Since assuming office as NFF President, Gusau has pursued reforms aimed at repositioning Nigerian football through improved administration, strategic development initiatives and progressive policies targeted at strengthening the game at all levels.
He also commended CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, for his continued confidence in Nigeria’s football leadership and organisational capacity.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu announced the development at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi following a high-level meeting with Motsepe.
Among those present at the meeting were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.
Under Gusau’s leadership, Nigerian football has witnessed renewed administrative stability, increased support for grassroots and women’s football development, as well as improved relations with continental and global football bodies.
The CAF Ordinary General Assembly traditionally brings together presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions and key football decision-makers, while the CAF Awards Ceremony remains one of the continent’s biggest football events celebrating excellence and outstanding achievements in African football.
