The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has intensified efforts to strengthen stakeholder collaboration on improved parking management across the state.
As part of the initiative, the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Akeem Dauda.
Speaking during the meeting, Adelabu said the visit was aimed at sensitising the local government leadership on LASPA’s activities in ensuring proper parking management across the state, informing them about the agency’s expansion plans and the proposed On-Street Parking Scheme.
She disclosed that the On-Street Parking Scheme is scheduled to commence in 2026 as a pilot project in selected local government areas, including Ikeja.
Addressing the chairman and management team of the council, Adelabu explained LASPA’s role in regulating parking and improving traffic flow across Lagos State.
She noted that parking management was initially under the jurisdiction of local government councils before it was transferred to LASPA by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
According to her, the proposed scheme will deliver several benefits, including improved parking management, enhanced traffic flow, and job creation, particularly for residents of the selected pilot areas.
She further stated that local governments and LCDAs stand to benefit significantly from LASPA’s parking initiatives, depending on the level of support and collaboration they provide in implementing the On-Street Parking Scheme and other strategies of the authority.
Adelabu reaffirmed LASPA’s commitment to collaboration, stressing that the authority remains open to suggestions and contributions from local governments and other stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative and the continued development of the state.
In his response, Dauda appreciated LASPA for the visit and commended the agency’s efforts at improving parking management across Lagos State.
The council chairman also pledged the support of Ikeja Local Government for effective parking management and called for increased public sensitisation to educate residents on proper parking practices.
