Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has condemned the recent wave of killings and kidnappings targeting worshippers in Ekiti State, describing the situation as a tragic reflection of a nation where human life is rapidly losing its value.
In a statement posted on his verified X account (formerly Twitter), Adebayo expressed deep sorrow over the attacks, insisting that no Nigerian should have to live in fear while worshipping.
The SDP Chieftain said the recurring violence highlights a fundamental failure of governance, stressing that the primary responsibility of any government is to safeguard lives and property—an obligation he said is being grossly neglected.
Adebayo drew a sharp contrast between his vision for Nigeria’s security architecture and what he described as the politicisation of security institutions.
He pledged that, if elected president, he would end political interference in the operations of security agencies, emphasising the need for professionalism, independence, and strict internal accountability.
She advocated a system where corrupt officials are disciplined internally and institutions are reoriented to serve the public interest rather than political elites.
Adebayo said the Nigerian state must be rebuilt around the protection of its people, noting that restoring public confidence in security agencies would require both structural reforms and leadership committed to transparency.
He extended solidarity to victims and their families, reiterating his party’s call for leadership that prioritises the safety and dignity of citizens above all else.
