The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has resigned from his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State.
Adelabu conveyed his decision in a letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that the resignation will take effect from April 30, 2026, to allow for a smooth transition and proper handover of responsibilities.
The former minister expressed gratitude to the President for the confidence reposed in him, describing his appointment as a rare privilege to serve the country.
He noted that his tenure provided an opportunity to contribute to ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s power sector.
Adelabu explained that his resignation was informed by his intention to fully concentrate on his governorship bid in Oyo State.
He added that the move aligns with the provisions of the amended Electoral Act, which bars serving political office holders from contesting elections.
The minister further disclosed that his governorship ambition dates back to 2016 during his time at the Central Bank of Nigeria, noting that he had similarly resigned in 2018 to pursue the same political aspiration.
