“Wike Has No Authority In APC Affairs”- Basiru Fires Back

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following remarks in which Wike warned him to stay away from Rivers State politics.
In his response on Monday, Basiru said Wike lacked the authority to comment on the affairs of the APC, stressing that the former Rivers State governor is not a member of the ruling party.
“From my record, he isn’t a member of APC. I don’t see which authority or temerity he has to be dabbling in APC affairs,” Basiru said.
He noted that as the National Secretary of the APC, his responsibilities extend beyond Osun State and cover all parts of the country, including Rivers State.
“I am the National Secretary of APC and I don’t see any basis for him to be making comments about my activities either in Rivers State or in any part of Nigeria. My activities are not confined to Osun State. I am the head of the National Secretariat of the APC,” he stated.
Basiru further insisted that Wike had no standing to engage him on any political matter concerning the APC until he formally joins the party.
Reacting to allegations that he was interested in Rivers State’s reported N600 billion allocations, Basiru dismissed the claim as baseless, describing himself as a man of integrity and principle.
“I take strong exception to his allusion that I am interested in the N600 billion allocations of Rivers State. My records of service are those of integrity and commitment to service. I am not an opportunist,
“My advice to him is that he should resign as Minister and face his obsession with Rivers politics,” Basiru said,” he said.
