The Ekiti State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to enhance operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport and reinforce security across the state.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji made this known during a working visit to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday. He stressed the need for close partnership to ensure security, smooth operations, and economic gains from the airport.
The governor, who arrived at about 9:35 a.m., was received with a ceremonial parade, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its professionalism and dedication to safeguarding lives and protecting critical infrastructure.
Oyebanji revealed that his administration has allocated over 1,000 hectares of land, with a Certificate of Occupancy, for a permanent NAF facility near the airport, adding that the state is ready to provide further support for full operational presence.
He noted that discussions with the Air Force have been ongoing and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the partnership to improve security and development in the state.
The governor also highlighted the modern standard of the Ekiti airport, stating that pilots have attested to the quality of its runway and facilities, while the Instrument Landing System (ILS) is expected to be ready next month.
He added that increased Air Force presence would boost security, enhance investor confidence, and improve the airport’s overall functionality.
In his response, Air Marshal Aneke commended the governor’s proactive leadership and expressed NAF’s willingness to deepen collaboration. He also disclosed plans, in partnership with international stakeholders, to establish an aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) centre at the airport to boost capacity, create jobs, and strengthen aviation infrastructure.
