Lagos Cracks Down on Coastal Road Crime, 75 Suspects Arrested In Late-Night Raid

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce on Wednesday night arrested 75 suspects at identified black spots along Coastal road, recovering substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, via a post on his facebook page.

Wahab said the enforcement operation was part of the ongoing clean-up exercise, saying that one of the officers was attached and injured by hoodlums during the operation.

The post read ” As part of the ongoing clean-up and enforcement operations along Coastal Road, operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out a late-night raid at about 10pm yesterday, targeting identified black spots in the area.

” During the operation, 75 suspects were arrested, comprising 68 males and 7 females. Substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered at the scene.

“In the course of the exercise, one of our officers, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, was violently attacked by hoodlums and sustained a serious head injury. He is currently receiving medical treatment”.

The commissioner warned that attacks on law enforcement officers carrying out lawful duties would not be tolerated, adding that all suspects arrested during the raid would face the full weight of the law.

“We remain resolute in restoring order, protecting public spaces, and ensuring that Coastal Road and other parts of Lagos are safe and secure for all law-abiding residents”, said Wahab.
