Lagos Unveils ‘Justice on Wheels’ Campaign to Tackle Traffic, Environmental Violations
The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to educate residents on compliance with environmental and traffic regulations through a public sensitisation campaign organised by the Special Offences (Mobile) Court.
The outreach programme, themed “Justice on Wheels: Know the Law, Keep Lagos Clean, Safe and Orderly,” was held at the Lagos Safety Arena and extended to key locations including Oshodi, Iyana Ipaja, Ojota and Ikorodu.
The exercise focused on common infractions such as driving against traffic, misuse of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes and obstruction of public spaces.
Speaking at the event, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro, SAN, who was represented by the Director of Citizens’ Rights, Mr. Ogunsanya Jonathan, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to a justice system that is accessible, corrective and people-centred.
He noted that the Mobile Court serves not only as an enforcement mechanism but also as a platform for public enlightenment, saying “Through sensitisation exercises like this, we aim to prevent violations by ensuring citizens understand their rights, responsibilities and the consequences of breaking the law”.
Pedro added that the state government remains committed to lawful and humane strategies to strengthen civic responsibility and uphold the rule of law.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Special Offences (Mobile) Court, Mr. Olufemi Adekunle, explained that the initiative was designed to bridge the information gap between the justice system and residents.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences, Mr. Adetayo Akerele, stressed that traffic discipline and environmental cleanliness are vital to public safety in the state. He warned that offences such as obstruction, BRT lane violations and one-way driving undermine efforts to maintain order.
Residents were urged to obey traffic rules, maintain environmental sanitation and conduct their activities in line with existing laws as part of efforts to build a safer and more orderly Lagos.
