The Lagos State Government has convened a stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed redevelopment of the Obalende Bus Park into a modern transport hub through a public-private partnership with MTN Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on Friday via his Facebook page.
According to him, the project will cover the Main Bus Park, Bus Park 2, and supporting facilities, including a loading bay and park garden. The redevelopment is expected to be completed within 21 weeks from the date of commencement.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, underscored the need for optimal space utilisation to accommodate all commercial bus operations within the Obalende axis. He noted that functional and well-planned infrastructure would be critical to the project’s long-term success and sustainability.
Giwa also recommended the establishment of a technical committee to address key implementation details and stressed the importance of sustained engagement with transport unions and other stakeholders.
The meeting was attended by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi Akodu; the Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services, Engr. Mahamood Adegbite; Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Bola Oladunjoye; Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin; General Manager of LASPARK, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola; representatives of MTN Nigeria; and other key stakeholders.
