2026 Hajj: Oyo Begins Medical Screening, Knowledge Test for Intending Pilgrims
The Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board has commenced medical screenings and interviews on basic Islamic knowledge for intending pilgrims from the state ahead of the 2026 Hajj.
The exercise is designed to assess pilgrims’ understanding of Islamic practices and confirm their medical fitness for the pilgrimage.
Certified medical practitioners from the Oyo State Hospitals Management Board conducted comprehensive health assessments, including checks on vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse rate, tuberculosis screening, liver, heart and kidney function tests, as well as hepatitis B and C screenings.
Addressing the pilgrims at the Ibadan/Ibarapa Centre Hajj Camp in Olodo, Ibadan, the Chairman of the Board, Sheikh Wahab Atere Hashim Olamide JP, urged them to remain steadfast in their faith and worship Allah with sincerity.
He emphasised the importance of adequate knowledge of religious rites, noting that the preliminary interviews revealed gaps in understanding among some intending pilgrims.
Sheikh Atere assured the pilgrims that they would receive proper guidance on performing Hajj in line with the Holy Quran through regular lectures and enlightenment programmes to be delivered by experienced Islamic scholars.
He also warned pilgrims to avoid habits and behaviours that could adversely affect their health during the pilgrimage.
Some of the intending pilgrims, including Mr Fijabi Abass, Mr Raheem Balogun, Mrs Alabi Modinat and Mrs Muritala Monsurat, described the exercise as timely, well-organised and educational. Mrs Monsurat noted that officials asked routine questions on basic Islamic knowledge.
Also speaking, Dr Ibrahim Adelani encouraged the pilgrims to approach the pilgrimage with a positive mindset and perseverance, highlighting the spiritual benefits and rewards associated with Hajj.
The medical screening and interview exercise will continue in other zones of the state on Wednesday and Thursday.
