The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied reports suggesting that it included funds in the 2026 budget to purchase houses in Abuja for its members.
In a statement released by the Chairman, House Committee On Information, Strategy and Security, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe and the Chairman, House Committee On Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Sa’ad Olumoh, the Assembly clarified that there is no allocation for buying homes in Abuja or anywhere outside Lagos, describing the report as baseless and politically motivated.
The House described as illogical, claims that public money would be used for personal housing outside the state.
It also reminded the public that the full budget is available for review and shows the government’s efforts to meet the needs of Lagos residents while managing resources responsibly.
Officials noted that the capital expenditure for the House of Assembly in 2026 accounts for less than 0.04% of the state’s total capital spending.
They said this demonstrates the Assembly’s careful and accountable use of funds, adding that in previous years, it often did not fully utilize its approved budget.
The statement urged Lagosians to ignore the false reports and to rely on official sources for accurate information.
The House warned that those spreading the story could face legal action if they fail to provide evidence to support their claims.
It reaffirmed their commitment to transparency, good governance, and promoting the welfare of Lagos residents, aligning with the goals of the 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity.
