The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Tuesday held its 2025 Post-Election Retreat in Ikeja as part of efforts to review the conduct of the last Local Government elections and strengthen future electoral processes in the state.
The retreat, themed “From Execution to Evaluation: Building a More Resilient Electoral Process for Lagos State,” brought together commissioners, directors, electoral officers, and key staff of the commission to critically assess the 2025 Local Government and Local Council Development Area elections. The exercise aimed at consolidating lessons learnt and identifying strategies for improvement.
Delivering the keynote address, the Chairman of LASIEC, Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (rtd.), underscored the importance of institutional self-assessment, accountability, and continuous learning in electoral management. She noted that credible elections are built not only on successful execution but also on honest evaluation, stressing that insights from the 2025 elections would guide reforms to strengthen transparency, inclusiveness, and public confidence in the electoral process.
She further charged electoral officials to embrace innovation, professionalism, and integrity, adding that a resilient electoral system must be adaptive, people-centred, and responsive to emerging challenges.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Supervising Commissioner and Chairman of the Election Training Committee, Hon. Oladele Adekanye, described the retreat as a critical platform for reflection, constructive feedback, and institutional learning. He said the commission remained committed to improving training, operations, and stakeholder engagement to enhance the quality of election delivery in Lagos State.
In his goodwill message, the Permanent Secretary of LASIEC, Mr. Abdulrafiu Omowole Fashola, commended the commission’s leadership and staff for their dedication and professionalism during the conduct of the 2025 elections.
