Sanwo-Olu Spreads Christmas Cheer at Gbagada General Hospital, Honours Outstanding Health Workers

 

 

 

As part of efforts to boost patient morale and sustain excellence in healthcare delivery, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has visited Gbagada General Hospital to share goodwill, distribute gifts and recognise outstanding service delivery within the facility.

The visit forms part of the Lagos State Government’s annual Christmas outreach to public health facilities, aimed at ensuring that patients hospitalised during the yuletide are not left out of the season’s celebrations, while also motivating healthcare workers. As part of the outreach, awards and gifts were presented to the Outstanding Staff of the Year 2025, alongside recognition of exceptional wards in acknowledgement of excellence, teamwork and dedication to service.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Dayo Lajide, the governor toured key sections of the hospital, including the Emergency and Casualty Unit, Paediatric, Male and Female Wards, as well as the Antenatal and Postnatal units. She interacted with patients receiving care during the festive period and conveyed the governor’s goodwill messages.

Addressing patients and staff, Dr. Lajide extended the governor’s warm compliments and reiterated the administration’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of all Lagos residents. She encouraged citizens to adopt positive health-seeking behaviours and seek medical attention early, stressing that no one should feel neglected, especially during a season associated with love, hope and celebration.

The Permanent Secretary also commended the management and staff of Gbagada General Hospital for their professionalism, compassion and dedication to duty, particularly during the festive season. She assured them of the state government’s continued support through the provision of resources required for quality healthcare delivery.

In a show of partnership, the Rotary Club of Gbagada, led by its President, Rotarian Tosin Olawoyin, joined the governor’s delegation in distributing Christmas gifts to patients, underscoring the importance of collaboration in supporting public healthcare and patient welfare.

Earlier, the Medical Director of Gbagada General Hospital, Dr. Olusegun Babafemi, expressed appreciation to the governor and partners for their consistent support, noting that the celebration aligns with the state’s vision of providing hope, encouragement and prayers for the speedy recovery of patients during the festive season.

Dr. Babafemi also commended hospital staff for their dedication, particularly those on duty during the holidays, noting that their commitment ensured patients felt valued and emotionally supported despite being away from their families.
