New Medical University Bill Scales Through Lagos Assembly, Awaits Sanwo-Olu’s Assent

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have passed into law the ‘University of Medicine and Health Sciences Bill’ on Thursday.

Lawmakers unanimously adopted the committee report after thoroughly reviewing its provisions and considering feedback from stakeholders at a public hearing.

The establishment of the new university is expected to address the shortage of medical professionals, expand training opportunities, and boost indigenous medical research capacity in Lagos State, ultimately enhancing the quality and resilience of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

It will also strengthen the nation’s healthcare sector by addressing the critical shortage of medical professionals and boosting indigenous research capabilities.

The bill will now be transmitted to  Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assent.
